Privacy notice

1. Who is responsible

Chito is operated by Cabanga Platforms, a company registered in Botswana. Cabanga Platforms is the responsible party for the personal information described here. Write to info@chito.africa.

2. Which law applies

The Botswana Data Protection Act is the governing regime, because the operation, the records and the responsible party all sit in Botswana. Where a candidate or an employer is located elsewhere, we also observe:

• POPIA where personal information relates to a data subject in South Africa
• The UK and EU GDPR where an employer or candidate is in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area
• Comparable obligations in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia where they apply

3. What is collected from a candidate

At intake: discipline, role, a short skill line, qualification, years of experience, rate expectation, working window and claimed overlap, availability, engagement type, and declared infrastructure. Photographs of your equipment and workspace. Your full name, WhatsApp number and email address.

At the verification call: the specification of your machine, the rating of your power backup, your carriers and the speeds actually measured, and the coordinator's notes. Later, the date and result of any spot check.

4. What is published, and what is not

Published on the register: discipline, role, skill line, qualification without the institution, experience band, rate band, market, time zone overlap, availability, engagement type, and the Uptime Badge with its verification date. The infrastructure fields are published as Confirmed only.

Never published: your name, your photograph, your curriculum vitae, your employment history, your video introduction, your number, your email address, your exact equipment, your carriers and your measured speeds, your town, and the institution you studied at.

This is structural rather than a promise. The generator that produces the public data file reads a defined set of fields. The identity fields are not in that set, so they cannot be emitted even by mistake, and the build fails rather than shipping if one ever appears.

5. Release of identity on an introduction

Your name, contact details, curriculum vitae, video introduction and certificates are released to one employer, on one occasion, when that employer pays for an introduction to you, and only if you gave the consent recorded at intake. Before any release a coordinator contacts you to confirm you are still available and still want the introduction.

Your details are never sold, never included in the Remote Workforce Index, never released in aggregate, and never made available to a third party for marketing. There is no price at which the register becomes a database.

6. What is collected from an employer

The description of your company, the country of the hiring entity, the role, discipline, budget band, overlap, engagement type and start window, and your website or registration number. Your name, your role, your work email address and your WhatsApp number. Your name, email and number are never published.

7. What stays on your device

The candidates you select are held in your browser for the current visit only and clear when you close the tab. The record of what you have submitted is held in your browser's local storage. There is no account, no login and no password anywhere on Chito. Nothing in either list is transmitted to us, and clearing your browser data clears it.

8. The confirmation gate

A form submission writes nothing anywhere. A six-digit code is sent to the address you gave, and the record is written only when you send that code back. If you abandon the step, enter the wrong code past the limit, or let it expire, the held record is discarded and no record is ever created. Where the confirmation gate is not in use for a particular form, submissions are delivered directly to the desk by email instead.

9. How long anything is kept

• An unsuccessful application: twelve months, then deleted, so you are not asked to repeat yourself if you come back
• A listed candidate: while listed, plus twenty-four months after the badge lapses or you ask to be removed
• An introduction record: seven years, because it is the record of a paid transaction
• Verification photographs: twenty-four months from the last verification
• Enquiries: twenty-four months

10. Who else sees anything

Records are held in Google Workspace, which is Chito's processor for storage and email. Nothing is shared with any other third party except the single employer receiving a paid introduction to you, with your consent. We do not run advertising trackers, analytics profiling or social pixels on this site.

11. Your rights

You may ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, withdraw your consent to identity release at any time, and ask to be taken off the register immediately and without explanation. Withdrawal of consent takes effect at once; it cannot reverse a release already made to an employer.

Write to info@chito.africa. We respond within thirty days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information and Data Protection Commission in Botswana, or to the regulator in your own jurisdiction.

12. Children

Chito is for working adults. Nobody under 18 may apply, and no listing is accepted from anybody under 18.

13. Changes

Material changes are shown on this page with a new date. Continued use after that date is acceptance of the revised notice.
